ETRËMA, OR THE ECOLOGY DOWN TO THE FIBRE

During the pandemic, we basically had a choice between disposable surgical masks, protective but disastrous for the environment, and washable masks made of fabrics therefore much more ecological, but almost ineffective or at least very unequal. This was before the arrival of the etrëma masks, whose flawless protection is matched only by the scrupulous care for the environment with which they were designed.

The FRËTT SOLUTIONS team are above all designers, engineers and scientists who love nature and are obsessed with reducing the impact on the planet of an industry as nefarious as textiles. When the pandemic hit, we quickly saw the ecological catastrophe behind the health crisis with the explosion of single-use plastic consumption, and in particular disposable personal protective equipment made of ultra-polluting synthetic fibres.

We immediately went to work to find a reusable and zero-waste replacement to the surgical mask. A global reflection combining design and life cycle made it possible to firstly select the materials for their low ecological impact: for example, our rubber-based neoprene from sustainable forests that improves the sealing around the edges of ë TECH masks has a carbon footprint 10 times lower than the same material in the petrochemical version, our OEKO TEX certified inks are not eco-toxic…

Secondly, the masks are assembled in such a way as to facilitate their disassembly into directly reusable parts and recyclable parts after collecting the masks that finished their service life in dedicated collection boxes: the polypropylene of the filter membranes is remelt into pellets that are used for the 3D printing of our accessories, the nose pins return to our plants for reuse and other textile materials are recycled for stuffing…

But above all, all etrëma masks are washable or can be reprocessed in disinfection 100 times, which makes it possible to replace at least 200 disposable masks.  This is a reduction of more than 98% of the quantity of plastic at the manufacturing stage alone! After 100 washes, performance is no longer certified for the medical world (for now, as we work tirelessly to widen the ecological gain gap with disposable masks), but our masks allow cascading reuse and remain the best barrier protection for everyday life: pollen, diesel engines’ soot, saw dust, plaster dust, paint aerosols, name it!  Our incomparable filtration efficiency on very fine particles allows for increased protection in all environments and conditions. Choose the right model of etrëma mask according to your level of risk.

And our cherry on the ecological sundae is local production in Quebec and Canada in order to reduce the impact of transportation and contribute to the development and autonomy of self-protection in a circular economy.

Durable masks for a sustainable development, that’s eco-efficiency according to FRËTT SOLUTIONS.
